MTC Screen Repair / Replacement Guide
Touch screens manufactured by Medallion and installed in Malibu and Tige boats commonly fail from two main causes:
- Glass Delamination: The glass projected capacitive (PCAP) digitizer panel separates from the LCD display panel due to deterioration of the optical bonding adhesive. Over time, the adhesive leaks into the module body leaving a void that creates a bubbling appearance on the screen. Delamination begins around the perimeter and progresses toward the center. Touch response is usually lost as the screen delaminates, initially at the power wedge and engine start buttons near the screen edge, and ending with users being unable to enter the security code.
- Motherboard Heat Sensitivity: Research conducted by Wakeswitches has revealed another cause of interrupted touch response unrelated to PCAP digitizer delamination. Even with new or refurbished screens, users experience frozen functionality and loss of touch response while operating in hot weather. Radiant heat passing through the display panel is absorbed by the motherboard, and touch response is interrupted upon reaching a critical temperature of approximately 95F. Wakeswitches identified the motherboard as the affected component by isolating, heating, and function testing the module's individual components.
Multiple options exist in the market to resolve MTC screen problems and get you back on the water.

MTCScreens.com DIY Repair or Mail-in refurbishment
- mtcscreens.com is not affiliated with Wakeswitches Screen Solutions
- Perimeter-only glass/LCD bonding with double-sided tape was revealed in a patent application. Major touchscreen manufacturers advise against this approach as the resulting air gap causes diffraction and accumulation of moisture & dust. Additionally, the fragile PCAP glass digitizer lacks support resulting in known cases of stress cracking in the high-vibration marine environment.
- Doesn't address known motherboard heat sensitivity problems
- $1,300 (DIY kit), or $1,600 (mail-in repair)
- DIY repair requires multi-hour time investment to learn and properly execute the repair. Involves heating and separating glass, messy glue contact, removing / re-inserting delicate ribbon cables, possible glass breakage, and in-boat testing prior to final re-assembly
- Extra $250 charge for extended warranty
